Prepping for a Decanic Walk

coffeewiththefool.substack.com

For a long while now, I’ve been intrigued with the idea of doing a decanic walk through the minor arcana. It popped up in my social media feed a few years back but I didn’t think much about it and frankly, it confused the crap out of me. However, I was recently turned back on to start my own Decanic Walk after seeing a few other Thoth readers highly recommend the book 36 Secrets by T. Susan Chang. I’ve heard nothing but praise over this book and this year-long project, so I finally decided to dive in!

I’m getting cozy in a 36 Secrets FB study group where I plan to share my reflections at the end of each 10 days in the decan, but I might share more of that on here if there’s interested (leave me a comment if so, otherwise I’ll skip posting it here).

If anyone has every told you that Thoth has many rabbit holes, believe them!

Decks I’ll be using:

While this is not strictly a “Thoth thing” the book actually features the RWS and other decks, so it can be used with Thoth and/or RWS. I was planning to work with Thot alongside the RWS but I think I’ll mostly be focused on two decks: the standard Thoth Tarot and the Tabula Mundi. I will be sharing a personal review of the Tabula Mundi soon on Substack. Spoiler alert: I’m completely and utterly in love.

Since a decan is 10 days, this project is replacing my personal week ahead readings so that instead I can focus more on the decan as my guide alongside the cards. The deeper I get into working with Thoth, the more I’m enjoying it. I’ve never resonated so well with the cards or a specific deck in my nearly 10 years of reading cards. I think I’ve truly found what works for me after all these years searching for what feels good in my practice.

Books for reference:

The books I’ll be referencing through this decanic walk are the following (this list may grow or shrink over time): Book M: Liber Mundi (digital version) Book of Thoth, Mirror of the Soul, and of course 36 Secrets.

I sense the making of a Thoth deck in your future!
