While I meant to get a post up sooner, this week has been a rough one for many of us and my mental clarity is a bit scattered. I’ve been finding comfort in diving back into my Lenormand practice, paying attention to the insects in my yard and sketching… lots of sketching.
Lenormand, Again…
This past week I was bitten, yet again, by the Lenormand bug. I fell down a rabbit hole on YouTube watching Lisa Loves Lenormand and promptly ordered her book on Kindle.
While I love Rana George, Emily Rose and Lozzy’s Lenormand… I needed something fresh and different to focus on and learn from. I am absolutely loving Lisa’s techniques and methods so far.
Right now I’m focused on creating a daily 3-card reading practice in getting to know the cards on a more personal level, and setting down better foundations for me. I’ve never actually worked on a more consistent shuffling rhythm with my cards, getting into a better headspace and really taking my time with my readings. Card journaling is another thing I’m trying to work more on. It’s been quite transformative and I see this flowing into my tarot and playing card practice as well.
Naturally, I have my eye on a few new Lenny decks that I want to scoop up when I have the extra funds!
So Many Insects and Creatures
The one thing I love and hate about living in the mountains is the creatures I discover. Some are amazing and blow me away in awe, while others have me running out of the backyard as quickly as possible (ahem, Tarantula Hawks… need I say more?).
In the past week or so I’ve spotted two (new to me) moths: Satin Moth and an Elm Shpinx that was nearly the size of my hand… I kid you not, these moths can get up to a 4.5-5 inch wingspan and this one was giant. The Satin Moth blew me away, it was gorgoeus! I’ve seen these in books but never in person. They’re like fuzzy white snow creatures and I hope to see more down the road.
Now, the Tarantula Hawks are a totally different thing. They scare the living shit out of me. Picture a giant black wasp, the females are bigger than the males and have an orange coloring on them. They are freaky and have no agenda. No thank you! Luckily I’ve only seen them twice since 2020… knock on wood!
Daily Sketching
I’ve been getting back into the habit of sketching daily, whether it’s a bottle of spray cleaner on my desk or the books on the shelf, I’m always sketching something that catches my eye. I enjoy sketching mundane objects more than anything, not sure why.
Recently I took the plunge and listed a few mini sketches to my shop, not sure how often I’ll do this since I’m still on the fence about pulling the listings down. I’ll be honest, when you’re an artist and you post your art for sale and no one buys it.. it hits you pretty hard. It’s difficult for me not to take it personally and start second guessing my work even though I shouldn’t look at it like that. I think many artists can agree though.
That doesn’t stop me though. Since getting back into Lenormand I have a few deck ideas brewing that I might try and sketch out here soon. It seems anytime I get into this system, a new deck is born from it.
