Tomorrow starts the #tarotcreative2022 challenge for August that Samantha Rene and I are hosting! I thought I would go through my decks and pull some out that I plan to work with during this challenge. This mini stack may change up as I move through the challenge, and I also have one deck on the way that I plan to work with.
So far, I’m leaning towards these decks! I wanted cards that really show a story since I plan to use the cards as more visual aids rather than “this card means this”. Below are the decks and the reason why I picked it!
I’m starting at the far left and moving clockwise
Cosmos Tarot and Oracle Deck: I’ve been wanting to find an excuse to use this deck so bad! It’s been in my collection for a long time and I adore the artwork, I just never use it for readings and I don’t know why. I picked this deck specifically due to the illustrations, they’re vibrant and active. So much going on in the cards between figures and settings, I thought it would be a fun choice for some surrealism micro fiction.
Golden Moth Oracle: This is the only oracle deck that I wanted to include for the writing prompts, it’s my favorite go-to oracle that really tells a story. The cards are meant to be read intuitively and I actually misplaced the guidebook years ago so I really do read it intuitively. The scenes and imagery will make for great story fillers or twists in my writing.
The Art of Adventure Tarot: With a name like that, do I even need to explain why I picked this deck? I backed this deck on Kickstarter and it’s been one of my most treasured decks to date. The cards have so many hidden bits in the imagery, the characters are very animated and I love the RWS feel to it. It’s modern but familiar. I’ll probably use this deck the most!
Joe Sparrow Tarot: This is another deck, like the Art of Adventure, that really tells a story! I tend to read more intuitively with this deck and I always enjoy writing about the cards in this deck. I can tell that this deck will be a competition for the Art of Adventure Tarot and get used often next month.
Hayworth Tarot: I ordered this deck a few years ago and it’s still a great story teller! It’s strange and almost eerie, which is why I love it. The Welcome to Night Vale series is still one of my favorites and this deck brings it to life. I think this deck will also double for some surrealism and creepy stories!
Kitty Kahane Tarot: Last, but not least, the Kitty Kahane Tarot. I adore this deck! I purchased the German version a while back and had been wanting it for a few years. The imagery is very RWS but with a fresh perspective. I love the characters and settings in the cards, so I think this deck will be fun to work from when it comes to creative writing.
Ok, there’s my current stack of decks that I’ll be using for this challenge starting tomorrow! I’m waiting on the Lubanko Tarot and plan to add that into the mix as well, I traded with a friend for it and I’m looking forward to finally checking out this deck in person.
