How about a new deck review! The Tarot des Ambiguïtés Deck is another fantastic by Artisan Tarot and I’ve been anxious to share my review of this unique Marseille tarot.
The Tarot des Ambiguïtés Deck was hand drawn by Alejandro R Rozan and when I first saw the release of this deck I knew it was one that I would enjoy working with. The artwork features such a unique perspective but still very familiar, and it makes for a great deck to use with an open reading approach. The design of this deck is quite exquisite and the quality of the cards is top notch!
This deck follows the Marseille system and captures the symbols and details many readers will recognize. I adore the suit symbols the most, which have been re-imagined in this deck: Cups are anatomical hearts, Swords feature hands, Coins are now heads, and Batons feature legs and feet. It’s brilliant! Even the Trumps have their own hidden gems tangled into the imagery like the Bateleur with an extra hand and a dark creature hiding at the feet of La Papesse. Every time I work with this deck a new detail jumps out to me.
The color palette itself is rich, yet muted and plays well with the illustrations on the cards. Alejandro’s hand drawn illustration are fantastic! If you are a fan of the Tarot des Ambiguïtés Deck but prefer working more with Rider-Waite, be sure to check out the Rider-Marseille Deck. It’s the same style but different system.
I’ve mentioned this a million times whenever I review Artisan Tarot decks and will continue to mention this, their decks are meant to last and handle shuffling. The attention to detail is always on point, even the most subtle of details are alwyas considered. In this deck, the Tarot des Ambiguïtés, I noticed the card backs have the slight look of stained paper that pairs up perfectly with the card fronts. The design stays consistent and I love that. I can’t recommend this deck enough, it has to be one of my top favorites that they have created.
