It’s been quite some time since I last wrote on Substack, and a review at that. I was recently sent a copy of the F.F. Solesio deck from Artisan Tarot, as well as another deck, and wanted to share a little review of this stunner of a deck!
The F.F. Solesio is a restoration of the original 1865 deck by F. F. Solesio in Genoa, Italy. This deck comes with the 2 of Coins, along with the 22 Trumps making it a 23 card deck. The original Italian titles were also kept on these card during the restoration process, which I’m very happy about!
One of the details that I like the most about this deck is the use of blue for the illustration outlines rather than traditional black, it saturates the colors in a unique way that I quite like! The illustrations are soft yet still produce that historic feel. Another thing about the coloring of this deck that caught my eye was the slight use of gradient coloring in a few cards, it’s stunning!
The F.F. Solesio has quickly become a favorite in my collection when I crave Trump decks.
One question I get often is “How do you read with a Trumps only deck? Aren’t you missing cards or information?” Trump decks read really well for me, they’re straight to the point and are very minimal as far as card count goes. Sometimes less is more when you clear out the minor cards, you get a better vision of what is going on without a lot of the extra chatter. when reading them, I typically read them by combing the cards function and direction/action they are facing or how they’re interacting with one another. It’s cartomantic alchemy on my table.
The F.F. Solesio is a pocket sized deck measuring at 2.25” x 3.5” and the cardstock is 300gsm with a linen finish that’s like butter to shuffle and will handle a lot of use well. Linen is one of my favorite cardstock finishes in any deck. Like other Artisan Tarot decks, this is a well created deck with a true attention to detail. It’s a beautiful restoration and the first printing is limited to 500 decks.
This deck is currently available in Artisan Tarot’s shop: https://artisantarot.com/
This is my honest review of a deck that was sent to me as a gift by the deck creators.
