I’m a typical Gemini where as I’m always changing my mind on things and spend more time overthinking than doing the actual thing. Since this Substack is used mostly as a brief “journal” and not really tied to my main Instagram account (Coffee with the Fool), I decided to steal my writing blog’s old name and breathe some fresh air into this space!
Brevity + Iced Coffee
While it’s been over a year since I’ve put in any good effort to write micro or flash fiction, yet alone any new poetry. I thought it would be fun to rekindle that part of my creativity and share it here, as well as my usual mini journaling.
Ideally I’d like to share more tarot writing as well, but more so in the form of card perspectives rather than readings per se. I’ve been craving simplicity and I’m a bit all over the place when it comes to blogs, IG accounts and anything else that catches my eye. *Oh look, a squirrel* The idea of shutting down my Coffee with the Fool website/blog and pouring all that energy into this Substack is really tempting.
Again, simplicity is what I’m really hungry for right now but I’ll let my website/blog simmer a bit before I make any drastic decisions.
August Tarot and Writing Challenge
Today, my friend Samantha Rene and I shared a fun August challenge for Tarot + Creative Writing! I’ll be sharing a lot of my tarot inspired flash fiction here on Substack, as well as on Instagram. I think this is just the challenge I need to dip my toes back into writing, I love it and miss it… just need the discipline in creating a better writing routine. Now that school is starting back up for the kiddo next Wednesday I plan to really dive back into my writing and journaling!
I’ve been really wanting to work with my cards but my tarot practice has felt pretty stale as of late. Time to shake it up a bit! I’ve never really used the cards for creative writing but I’ve been interested in trying it out for some time now!
Caught the Hobonichi Bug!
Ok, I’m going to blame my friend for this one. I recently took a dive into the amazing world of Hobonichi and started with a Hobonichi Weeks after a recommendation. I was curious how I would like the paper and layout… It’s only been a few days and I’ve fallen deep down this rabbit hole. Luckily, I’m broke right this minute or I’d be sitting here waiting for a stack of Hobinichi’s and new pens to arrive.
Technically, I am waiting for some new washi tapes and a Hobonichi cover to arrive…
The paper is perfect and I already tested some watercolor sketches on a page, I’m in love. It takes fountain pens like a champ and also my favorite, Micron 01 and 02. I am on the hunt for a good journal for morning pages, I miss that journal and want to get back into writing each morning. I could never fill up 3 pages, so instead I always aimed for a page per day and if I went over, even better!
I struggle with writing lengthy pieces (and sketching in big sketchbooks), I stick to brevity as much as possible and find the challenge of writing Six Word and 100 Word Stories fun. I envy those who can write lengthy pieces or push out novels in a weekend, it’s impressive!
Here’s to a fresh start and a new writing space!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for mentioning me! I wish you well on your writing journey and I am excited to see what you write during the August challenge!
