I’m going to try something a little different with the card of the day this week! I’ve been getting more into working with the planetary days and hours, so I thought I would apply the card of the day to the ruling planet’s theme. I actually hosted a 7-day planetary tarot challenge on Instagram earlier in the year (or was it last year?) and it was a fun way to work with a card of the day and also connect to the ruling planet.
Let’s give it a go this week, shall we?
Monday is ruled by the Moon and is associated with creativity, emotions and self-expression.
Today’s card is the Hanged Man from the Thoth Tarot, this card is tied to the element of Water and is on path 23 of the Tree of Life where it joins Geburah (Severity) and Hod (Splendor).
As a card for the day: When applied to creativity and self expression, what happens when you’re feeling a block? That feeling when you’re struggling to express how you feel or can’t seem to get into your creative flow that you so desperately want to be in. The Hanged Man reminds us to take a moment and pause. It’s time to take a deep breath and be open to fresh insights and perhaps some new perspectives. Rather than get frustrated, find a new way of dealing with creative blocks and try not to lean into the old habits that keep these blocks coming. It’s all about patience and knowing that “this too shall pass”.
With a watery Moon and a watery card, let’s not allow a storm to brew and wash away our day before it even begins. Pause when the waves start to feel a bit rough.
This morning everything was setting me off. My ice maker didn’t work overnight so I had no ice for my iced coffee (I’m not a fan of hot drinks). I let the hens out but needed to scrub their waterer and refill it, but was running behind with feeding the dogs and waking my daughter up for school… All I could think about was what I had to do rather than what I wanted to do. I was stressed and stewing on it all made it worse, I just wanted to be in my studio so I could dive into the Hanged Man card and write. Writing was my calm this morning.
What I took from this card is that I needed to take a moment and catch my breath. I finally realized that the world won’t explode if I didn’t feed the dogs at exactly 6am and I knew that I could easily grab coffee while heading to the creek this morning. The dishes will get done and the house will get cleaned. The Hanged Man whispered to me that I needed to slow down and look at different perspectives. The snake at the Hanged Mans foot was the thread holding me up from falling, I can’t let that thread unwind and let my morning ruin my entire day.
P.s. For those concerned about my lack of coffee this morning, I ended up finding enough ice to make a small iced coffee! Hooray, the morning was saved. See, I just had to get clever and think outside of the box.
